Appeal Launch

"SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT"... was the most common response received from the majority of over 700 special guests attending the Official Launch of the St Mary's Cathedral Appeal, 15 March 2007.

The perfect location for the launch was John XX111 College, Mt Claremont. With its fantastic gymnasium (providing seating for so many guests) the pavilion area for hospitality service and with the appropriate space to provide parking for all the guests.

We sincerely thank Mrs Anne Fry, Principal of John XX111 and Members of the John XX111 Board for their wholehearted support and wonderful assistance in hosting this important event for the Archbishop and the Archdiocese. The College could not have been more accommodating or welcoming.

A special note of thanks must go to Mr Ric Del Pizzo, Community Relations Manager for the College, who worked tirelessly with the launch subcommittee to make this event one to remember. A year in the planning, every facet of the launch was in some way enhanced as a result of Ric's professional assistance.

The launch was one the most "exclusive inclusive" functions the Archdiocese had ever held. Invitations were extended to:

The Launch Presentations

The launch event was a stunning success...and wonderfully facilitated by Mrs Maureen Colgan, Deputy Chair, Appeal Committee.

Guests heard from His Grace, Archbishop Barry Hickey. The Archbishop's impassioned address was highly inspirational and certainly had a significant impact on all the guests. The Archbishop's personal commitment and passion for the Cathedral project was most certainly noticeable.

Dr Peter Nattrass spoke eloquently of the need for St Mary's Cathedral to be retained as a "much loved icon in the City of Perth" and urged guests to provide their strongest possible support for the appeal.

Maureen Colgan, representing Rev Monsignor Keating and the Appeal Committee, then proceeded to deliver a marvellous presentation which included the screening of the Appeal DVD and a wonderful PowerPoint presentation, providing specific details on both the Cathedral Project and the Appeal.

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the night for those privileged enough to hear it first hand, was the outstanding address delivered by The Hon Wayne Martin, Chief Justice and Appeal Patron.

In his speech, the Chief Justice called for much more than support for the St Mary's Cathedral or fundraising appeal; it was a call to the entire community of Western Australia to make our community a better place for all.and it is a speech we believe every member of the community should hear.
