Goan Community Unites in Support of Appeal
'We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.' - Sir Winston Churchill
The Goan Overseas Association (GOA) in Perth, was encouraged by Monsignor Michael Keating to be part of the St Mary's Cathedral Appeal.
The GOA managing committee, on behalf of the GOA community, warmly welcomed the opportunity of showing its collective support for this historic event. With typical Goan passion for good food, fun and a deep faith in Our Lady, a Bandra Feast Fair was organised on Sunday 16 September 2007 at the Victoria Park Recreation Centre.
The Bandra Feast is a traditional annual celebration of the birthday of Our Lady, celebrated by the people of Bandra, Mumbai. Approximately 1500 people joined in the entertainment, games of skill and festivities, whilst enjoying authentic Goan and other Indian cuisine.
Monsignor Keating shared with me that the day was an outstanding success and one he thoroughly enjoyed. He said it was uplifting to see so many good people having fun and joining together in support of the Cathedral Appeal.
Monsignor said it was exactly the kind of "community building event" that he and the Archbishop had hoped would occur during the appeal campaign.
